EDUCATION SERVICES
65% OF SURVIVORS IN MISSOURI ARE BETWEEN 12 AND 25 YEARS OLD.
Our kids are growing up online, and that's exactly where traffickers are looking for them.
One of the fastest-growing threats is sextortion.
Sextortion is a serious form of blackmail and exploitation in which a perpetrator threatens to distribute a victim's intimate, explicit images or videos to the public, family, or friends. The blackmailer uses this threat to coerce the victim into providing more explicit content, sexual favors, or money.
It runs on fear and shame to keep kids silent. But when we talk openly with our young people, we give them the confidence to recognize these tactics, say no, and reach a trusted adult before things escalate.
Our children and neighbors are safest when all of us are paying attention, and every one of us has a part to play.
