  • When an individual is coerced or manipulated into sharing explicit images or videos and then blackmailed for money, additional content, and/or favors.

    Step 1: Know this is not your fault and you are not alone.

    Step 2: Take control and stop responding immediately. Get help instead of paying money or otherwise complying with the blackmailer.

    Step 3: Talk with someone you trust. Text “THORN” to 741741 to confidentially speak with a trained counselor.

    Step 4: Save everything. Block the blackmailer, but do not delete your profile or messages.

    Step 5: Report sextortion to the platform where it happened.

    Step 6: Report sextortion to NCMEC’s Cyber tip line at report.cybertip.org.

    Step 7: Change all of your passwords.

    Step 8: Remember that it will be okay, and there is hope to get to the other side. You are not alone.

  • AI-generated or altered sexual images or videos that depict someone without their consent.

    Step 1: Tell a trusted adult immediately – parent. teacher, school counselor, or police

    Step 2: Do not reply to the person who made or sent it

    Step 3: Take screenshots for proof (show date/time)

    Step 4: Report to the platform and ask for removal

    Step 5: Get help – you are not alone and it’s not your fault

    Step 6: If these pictures or videos have been added to a platform, please follow the steps from NCMEC Take It Down Program

  • A process in which an individual builds a relationship with a child or vulnerable adult to manipulate, control, or exploit them for sexual purposes.

    ​Step 1: Report grooming or online manipulation to NCMEC via phone at 1-800-The-Lost or online at cybertipline.org 

    Step 2: Report to your local authorities.

    Step 3: If you have shared nudes pictures or videos follow steps from NCMEC Take It Down Program and report them directly to the companies.

  • The illegal and coercive act of exploiting a child or adult for commercial sex acts in exchange for money, goods, or services.

    Step 1: Call 911.
